The bad

The men can become infatuated and even potentially lead themselves into a pit of despair as the relationship is only as strong as his wallet. This sort of scenario can quickly lead the man into the poorhouse with a twisted view of social interactions, unable to deal with people and broke many men may feel worthless and depressed.

The women are only learning to sell their bodies, and dependant upon their beauty can earn 2-5 times more with their time dating a rich man instead of having a marketable skill. Once a man tires of the girl, she will be left with nothing but memories of what has been, leading her to a life of prostitution until she becomes old and worthless.

Current issues

Since 1999 the act of compensated dating has been outlawed in Japan between older men and school girls. Seen as a form of prostitution and unhealthy lifestyle choices.
